Why a Liveaboard Instead of Day Trips?
Day-trip speedboats spend 4–6 hours a day commuting to and from Labuan Bajo and can only reach sites close to port. A liveaboard sleeps inside the national park: you wake up directly above the reef, slip into the water at first light, and it is the only format that allows sunrise dives and night dives. Liveaboard-Only: Five Legendary Sites
Manta Alley (the southern manta aggregation site day boats cannot reach), Castle Rock and Crystal Rock (northern seamounts with schooling jacks and patrolling sharks), Batu Bolong (a vertical coral pinnacle with some of the park’s best visibility) and Shotgun (the famous drift-dive channel). Snorkelers focus on Manta Point (Karang Makassar) — in the May–October peak, 5–15 mantas per session is common, visible from the surface.

The 2026 Quota: Liveaboards Must Book Earlier
From April 2026, Komodo National Park enforces a daily cap of 1,000 visitors, with no on-site ticket sales — entries must be registered in advance through a licensed operator. A liveaboard spans several days, which means locking quota for every day of your route at once; last-minute peak-season bookings are close to impossible.
